정신 차리고 혁명을 (D.H. 로런스의 시 번역)

당신이 혁명을 한다면, 재미로 하라.

핏기 없이 진지하게 혁명하지 마라.

죽도록 성실하게 혁명하지 마라.

재미로 혁명하라.

사람들을 증오하기 때문에 혁명하지 마라.

그저 사람들 눈에 침 뱉기 위해 혁명하라.

돈을 바라고 혁명하지 마라.

혁명하라, 그러면 빌어먹을 돈이 떨어질거다.

평등을 위해 혁명하지 마라.

우리가 이미 너무 많이 평등하기에 혁명하라.

그리고 사과 수레를 뒤엎고서

사과들이 어느 쪽으로 굴러갈지 보는 건 재미있을 거다.

노동 계급을 위해 혁명하지 마라.

혁명하라, 우리 모두가 약간의 귀족주의를 자기 걸로 삼고

탈출한 나귀들처럼 쾌활하게 발길질할 수 있도록.

어쨌건 세계인의 노동을 위해 혁명하지 마라.

노동은 인간이 이미 너무 많이 하고 있다.

노동을 철폐하자, 노동을 끝장내자!

일은 재미있을 수 있다, 그러면 사람들은 일을 즐길 수 있다. 그런데 그렇게 되면 일은 노동이 아니다.

그렇게 일하자! 재미로 혁명하자!

If you make a revolution, make it for fun,

don’t make it in ghastly seriousness,

don’t do it in deadly earnest,

do it for fun.

Don’t do it because you hate people,

do it just to spit in their eye.

Don’t do it for the money,

do it and be damned to the money.

Don’t do it for equality,

do it because we’ve got too much equality

and it would be fun to upset the apple-cart

and see which way the apples would go a-rolling.

Don’t do it for the working classes.

Do it so that we can all of us be little aristocracies on our own

and kick our heels like jolly escaped asses.

Don’t do it, anyhow, for international Labour.

Labour is the one thing a man has had too much of.

Let’s abolish labour, let’s have done with labouring!

Work can be fun, and men can enjoy it; then it’s not labour.

Let’s have it so! Let’s make a revolution for fun!
