"It is the chance of the encounter which guarantees the necessity of what is thought."
If a thinking is not provoked by chance but by any rule or norm, then what is thought is only a mechanical or computational consequence of the former conditions. What is thought here seems necessary, but actually it is not a real event; it is only a naked repetition. Necessary is event, only event. What is really new is only from the chance, from something not to be foreseen or forethought, which is sign in Proust.
